Case Studies

In 2011 Intelen was a partner at "The Power of 10", an innovative educational project organized by British Council's Climate Advocates. 10 primary and secondary schools in Athens participated in this real life game. Their aim was to reduce their energy consumption by 10% in 10 weeks. Intelen installed smart meters and provided web-based applications to the participants in order to monitor their consumption and communicate. We also took part in energy saving workshops in order to educate and communicate better with the participants.

Participation from students and teachers through the internet via the project's web site, personal blogs and social accounts was really impressive and so were the results of this informal competition. All of the schools met by far the goal of 10% reduction. This is, if anything, more than satisfactory when you consider that the main factor of consumption in school-buildings was the lighting and there was little room for intervention.

Intelen and our services enhance demand response engagement and energy efficiency communication between utilities and consumers, through social networks and gamefication principles, providing adaptive social incentives via competition games in almost real time. There is a top-down approach, leveraging live social gaming and engagement concepts to convince groups of consumers to actively save energy (social power dynamics).
